How do I determine the size of a mitre to order for our bishop?

Measure the circumsphere of his head with a tape measurer. You shouldn't hold the tape completely horizontal, but somewhat lower in the back than in front (with a slight inclination). You can supply sizes in inches, but we use centimeters. We always indicate the size in centimeters inside the mitre ranging from 56 to 62. Have a look at the illustration (79 kb).

Do you make stoles with the crest of the US Army Chaplains?

Yes, we have made a stole with the crest of the US Army chaplains, in Damiano fabric. On the left side, the handembroidered crest, on the right side a silver cross, referring to the silver cross that the chaplain wear on the lapel of their uniforms. Note: the "new" crest is shown (without the cross and tablets), however upon demand, the "old" crest is also available.

How do I remove stains from my altar cloth?

These are some instructions regarding the laundering, caring, stain removal and storage of pure linen altar cloths.

Candlewax - Rub with ice cubes and scrape off excess wax with a dull knife. Place between several layers of absorbent tissue or a white blotter and press with a warm iron. Pour boiling water through stained area from wrong side. If wax dye stain remains, sponge with alcohol.

Wine - Soak or sponge fresh stains inmediately with cold water, then with cold water glycerine (available at drug stores). Rinse with vinegar for a few seconds if stain persists. Still, if some color remains, rub with liquid detergent shampoo. Wait 15 minutes and rinse.

Washing - All linens can be machine washed. Be sure to put the larger pieces on the bottom of your washer. Use a mild soap. We also recommend a water conditioner in the first washing and rinse cycle. Do not use bleaches or detergents containing bleach. Water temperature can be as hot as you like with white linens. With colored linens, avoid excessively hot water and prolonged soaking.

Drying - For best results, line dry in drect sunlight until slightly damp. Line drying will provide for easier ironing and wil not distort your linens shape. If necessary, machine dry at low setting. Remove while still damp. Linens taken from the dryer slightly damp are exactly right for ironing.

WIroning - Have your linen uniformly damp. Set the heat indicator on your iron to "linen" for regular and heavyweight linens and to "medium" for finer weaves. First, iron until partly dry, the on the right side to bring up the attractive natural sheen. For embroidered linens, iron face down on piece of heavy flannel, turkish toweling. A thin pressing cloth is an added safety factor when ironing cut work or lace. Because of its resilience, linens will change shape and size as you iron it in any given direction. When ironing a fair linen, which should always be the exact depth of the altar from front to back, it is helpful to use a yardstick, shaping and measuring as you iron to be sure of finishing in to the correct size.

Storage - Roll fair linens, or large altar cloths on cardboard tubes covered with muslin to prevent wrinkling. If used infrequently, wrap in Saran or tissue. When storing, avoid areas of excessive heat or cedar linen chests or drawers. The fumes from teh cedar tend to yellow the linens. Do not store linens starched. Linen is moth-proof, but moths do like starch!

Our local dealer will contact you to ask your permission to charge your credit card, or to ask if you if prefer other payments methods. The different payment facilities depend on each individual dealer, and are not standard policy of Slabbinck.com. Why don't you ask me for my credit card information?

It is our policy not to sell direct in countries where we have dealer, only through these dealers. When a chasuble has a band in the middle, how do you make your dalmatic; with a band in the middle, or with two smaller bands on the sides?

Normally, we will make the dalmatic with a band in the middle, as on the chasuble. Making two smaller bands on the sides (like on the 7-2749 dalmatic) costs more, because there is more work involved. However, upon request, it is always technically possible to have two smaller bands instead of one band in the middle at a small supplement.

How should I clean my chalice?

The residues of wine in a chalice attack the gold layer of the cup. Therefore it is important to clean it well. Drying it with the purificator is not enough, as it still leaves some wine residues, and besides, it sometimes scratches the gold layer. The best thing is to simply handwash it with soap, as you would do with your precious dishes.

Do you have suggestions for stoles for transitional deacons?

We would suggest to ask for our style 134 deacon stoles. They are straight, and are crossed at the bottom. This is done with a small stitch and snap. Afterwards, by simply removing the stitch and snap, the stole can be worn as a regular overlay stole.

Some of our dealers run a special transitional deacon program, which consists of simply borrowing a deacon stole for time necessary. Please e-mail us for more information.

Do you have vestments for use at Mass in hot seasons?

Yes, we do. Please have a look at our suggestions for lightweight vestments.

Do you make eastern rite vestments?

As such we don't. However, since we are specialized in custom-made orders, you can discuss your project with one of our dealers. Perhaps we can help you that way. We do have a Byzantine style deacon stole, which can be made in any design.

I found a new shirt by Slabbinck in Europe where the white collar goes all around, and the black part of the collar has two snaps to which the white collar approaches. Are these available in the US?

You probably mean our "Romano" model. Yes, it is available in the US through our recognized dealers, as are all our other shirts.

Are your albs washable? And what about the chasubles?

Our albs are all washable. A label with washing instructions is sewn into the neck of the albs. They can not machine-dried.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, our chasubles are NOT washable, but have to be dry-cleaned. On the label, your dry-cleaner can find international symbols with dry-cleaning instructions.

The chasubles that are washable are identified as so in our catalogue, and also wear label with washing instructions in the neck. Typically, they can be washed at 30°C (85°F).

We only offer the inside banner in Spanish (ref. 7017); but apart from that, we do not offer any other languages on the flags and banners. Our embroidered banners are available with wording in Latin (ref. 61-3044), English (ref. 61-3105), French, Spanish (ref. 61-3106) and Portuguese.

Do you have a dedicated design team and are they focused on specific areas such as weave, embroidery and printing?

Yes, we have our own design team under the direct supervision of Dirk Slabbinck, and we design everything for the basic fabric weave to the embroideries.

Is it possible to obtain Deacon Stoles that match the overlay stoles for priests?

Of every priest stole, we can make a matching deacon stole at the same price.

However, some designs are woven into the fabrics, (for example the History of the Church stole); so we would have to cut into the design, in order to provide for the "crook" in the normal deacon stole. In that case, we would suggest a different cut: our "straight" deacon stole (style 134).

Do you sell roman style vestments?

Although we don't advertise them in our catalogue, we can manufacture roman style chasubles on special requests.

I can't find the answer to my question in this FAQ.
